Three exhibition rooms reveal to visitors a good overview of the prestigious provincial collection of the Château de Jehay.
The first one, the “Jehay Cabinet of Curiosities”, recreates the typical atmosphere's cabinets of curiosities, the ancestors of our present-day museums. In an intimate ambience, this collection reflects the personality of Count Guy an den Steen de Jehay, the final resident of the premises and an enlightened collector.
The second, “(Extra)ordinary Birds”, tells stories about a change of perspective on beings that are both fascinating and familiar: birds. Throughout history, they have been the subject of legends and myths, but they have also been hunted, studied, collected. They are now threatened by the consequences of human activities. It is urgent to take a fresh look at them, to tell new stories, to make them (extra)ordinary again!
And the third, "Amazing paintings!", presents behind the hangings, in an intimate and warm space, a selection of the most astonishing paintings from the Château de Jehay collection. Liège Renaissance, the Dutch Golden Age and the Italian Baroque Age, portraits, still life and history painting, these are the major stages and essential genres in the history of art which are summoned by fascinating works, with paths and sometimes incredible stories.
